MadBite Fishing Grips with Digital Fishing Scale or Fishing Measure Tape

I had a chance to take my fishing grip to my local river today. It’s well made and worked without any hiccups. Nice to know it’s stainless steel so rust is not a big issue. I like to test new tools thoroughly before taking them out and I’m glad I did. I didn’t realize the plastic tab at the end of the lanyard was just there to hold the loose ends of the lanyard together. They are by no means meant to support any significant tension. I slid my fingers between the chords and pulled to test how hard I could pull on the lanyard and the plastic tab popped right off. I guess that’s what the knot in front of the tab is for. It snapped back on without any damage but I’m glad I discovered that before I unknotted the lanyard. The foam grip on the handle is a nice functional touch that held up well to a full day of use. Even wet, it gave me a good grip. My former fishgrip was a hard plastic handle that got slippery when wet. Another bonus is that the grip did not get super hot when left out in the sun. I also tested the scale with some known weights 5, 10, 25 pounds were accurate but at 40 pounds, the scale was off by about 3 pounds. There’s something that looks like a dial at the butt end of the grip. I think it’s just a retaining cap for the internal spring but after I weighed the 40 pound weight, I noticed the cap was loose. I think I may have stretched out the spring. I was disappointed since the scale is rated for 50 pounds max. The jaws line up well and held very firmly. I caught a 26lbs striper and was able to use it to check the weight. Here is where I have another complaint. The jaws only open to 5/8” and fitting my catch was tight. I was able to do it but I’m not sure if this will be usable if I catch a larger striper. The tape measure on the unit itself extends to 39 inches and is accurate enough for measuring fish. The feet markings were accurate but the inch markings between each feet were sometimes off by 1/8”. Honestly I could do without the tape measure as it is difficult to hold down a flopping fish and try to use a tape measure to see if the catch is legal. It was also difficult to pull the tape out of the house itself since the small rivet used to hold the end tab of the tape kept catching on the plastic housing.Final thoughts, I’m not sure I’d buy this again but I’ll reach out to the seller and update if there are any changes. For now, I don’t trust the scale anymore but it’ll still go in my tackle box in case I catch any toothy critters.UPDATE 6/4/16Paul from Madbite contacted me about my failed fish grip and offered to send me a new one. It looked exactly the same and I put it through the same weight test but this time and it registered fairly accurately. The 40lb weight came in at 39lbs and this time the spring did not stretch out but returned back to it's original position. Not sure if the first one I received happened to be defective but I've updated my review to reflect the updated quality and outstanding customer service.

These fishing grips are perfect for me because I do not like to actually touch the fish I catch. I can grab the fish off the hook with the grippers. The gripper is easy to use an maneuver, and it has an excellent grip. It held on to the squirmiest fish. The scale and the measurement features are wonderful features as well. You can weigh and measure your fish right on the dock or the boat and don't have to wait until you get back to shore to know how big your catch is.The grip handle is a nice foam so it's both comfortable to handle, and you don't have to worry about it slipping when your hands are wet. There is also a wrist strap so that when you catch a big one, it doesn't get ripped right out of your hand! This gripper is very well made and very durable. I see this is a must have in our tackle box from here on out!I received this product in return for my honest review. All opinions are based on my personal experience.

Good quality fish grips. The grips are made of stainless steel. This will work on any and all fish. The grip is easy to pull and glides smoothly in order to grip the lips on the fish. It comes with a leash to put around your arm to keep from dropping it and keep it handy. The tape measure is easy to put and measures up to 39". I added these grips to my saltwater fishing collection, I am not one to usually weigh my fish and have no problem sticking my hand up the gills of your average fish but these are nice for those sharp toothed/spiny gill fish that can cut you up without gloves on. Worth it to have a set of these on hand for holding up your nice 15 lb ling at the end of the day, I do like the integrated scale which seemed pretty accurate when tested with known weights. I also really enjoy the tape measure to make sure I'm only keeping legals. Not a necessary piece of gear but nice to have on the boat or in your tackle box

(using my wifes account) This feels to be a well built pair of grippers. I don't catch very large fish but believe this item will work great for my kids who are still a little squeamish about touching them. Perfect size for carrying in your pocket or tackle bag while fishing for cats at our local ponds and rivers. I will try to update later in the spring when the weather is better to fish. This set of grips take the guess work out of fishing. Build in tape measures, scale weights, and easy grips hold fish. The safety line is just what I need to keep from dropping fish over board. Strong and durable product. Would recommend these to friends.

I had purchased the product listed above based on the reviews and thought that it was a digital scale but after talking with Customer Service in receiving a scale that wasn't digital. I'm extremely happy with the exchange and that they were willing to work with me to provide the scale that I had intended to purchase and I loved it I haven't used it for fishing yet but I've tried it A number of items at my house and it works so well and is very easy to use and can't wait for spring I feel like I'll have this product for a very long time I must buy for a bass fisherman

The item description says Digital Scale. It isn't. Maybe they thought I wouldn't notice or care. Maybe one of these days Chinese manufacturers will raise their standards above current abysmal practices.

great tool

A simple vista parece una buena herramienta para sacar a los peces del agua. Pero al tenerlo en mis manos, tengo mis dudas, ya que me parece que tiene unos muelles un poco blandos. En fín, le probaré y espero estar equivocado
