Found parts catalog for that model 25hp 1977, shows several starters most are unavailable but if you take down the starter numbers and search for them you might find some reasonably priced. These were pretty expensive 0386591 unavailable 0392133 unavailable 0585061 unavailable 0586278 original can buy from Evenrude Johnson for $188.56 5376 Aftermarket from ARCO for $154.57 Hope that helps

Q: Hi, i'm trying to figure out if this starter will work for me. i have a 70 johnson 25r70e with starter assembly from a 72 johnson 25e72r.

Go to the Johnson site, find your OEM#, then look thru all the OEM#s listed for this starter. That's what i did and saved a lot of $$$. The year and motor size wasn't listed but the OEM# matched up and worked great!
