Love me some marmite, especially with butter toast or meat based dishes.

Now I know why the British and Aussies drink so much beer
I decided to indulge my curious nature and try some. After all they say this brewers yest extract is chocked full of B-vitamins. I was told that Marmite is 'sweeter' than standard vegemite. Well - let me tell you- I could taste nothing sweet at all. The salt content was overwhelming and as they say - use it sparingly. If I were making a meat sandwich or some other dish requiring salt, I would easily substitute this product. As far as health, I'm sure people that must watch their sodium levels might have an issue. The material is slightly pungent but it was the saltiness that I remember most. I suppose it does taste better than drinking a bottle of soy sauce. The texture of Marmite reminds me of very thick molasses. My advice is that it would be a better substitute for salt since it brings in a large compliment of B-vitamins. If you try to eat it by itself - a few pints of beer may be needed to prevent dehydration -lol.Cheers

Not the same as Vitam R available in Germany
Many years ago, Vitam R was available on Amazon US, it was the exact same product I was used to in Germany. It seems that is no longer is and I was hoping that this product was an alternative. IT IS NOT. This product looks like it but tastes horrible, is bitter and I would never use it as a bread spread as the various varieties of Vitam R can be. Not sure what use I might find for it, but definitely not the use I intended it for as the flavor is just horrible.

BEWARE - nationality ORIGIN may be a ISSUE
As others said this is an acquired taste, very salty, I can see me using it in place of salt when cooking. Nice way to take some Vit B.I wish the Cat liked it too, but she is russian blue NOT a british short hair and she won't even come close to it, let alone lick it..never in my wildest dreams have I imagined this will be an issue. We are multicultural household, so I do not know from where she got her views....? She is only 4 mo old and does not go out much....True, few times at the vet in the past months, and unsupervised too for some time, but she never made any friends when there, as far as I know. Must be in the DNA, wish I could return her but her mom is a stray, unloaded her in our garden and disappeared, I guess we are stuck with her now....

Well - you either love it or hate it
Well - you either love it or hate it ;) I am in the middle of no-where in NM and was feeling a lack of oomph... when I was ill as a kid my mum always gave me a runny egg with marmite soldiers (toast) and I started craving this not long ago, so did a search and was grateful to find this.It didn't take too long to arrive concidering where it's shipped from and where I am, and was well wrapped/protected in bubblewrap and a good box so arrived here undamaged...been enjoying it ever since, and will do for a while as I've never had marmite go off in UK, not even after the sell by date ;) & am working out which Americans love it, or hate it now ;)Helps me to regain some energy - so grateful to have it here :)

All I can say is that it's good for you and I ate it on a rice ...
I had never had this stuff before. I got it in an effort to go vegan or vegetarian and it was part of my pantry flip. I do believe it's an acquired taste! All I can say is that it's good for you and I ate it on a rice cake once. I'm eating meat again.

Will Marmite Capture American Taste Buds?
This is my first experience with Marmite. I purchased it (and the Australian Vegemite) out of simple curiosity, plus B vitamin contact. Thankfully, I knew not to spread too thick so was not surprised by the strong savory flavor. I had read up on the history and uses of the various yeast extracts and was interested to see if they would shock my American taste buds, and they did! It is said to be an acquired taste, but so far so good! I can see how the stuff can be addictive! I have been using as a condiment on sandwiches and small amounts to add complex flavor in soup recipes. Have heard that this product is a kitchen staple in the UK and quite inexpensive there, but highly overpriced by sellers on Amazon to US consumers, so I probably paid too much for the yeast extract experience! The other drawback is that it is very salty so I better slow down and not try it on everything!
