Maymom 19 mm Inserts for Medela Harmony Manual Hand Pump, Freestyle, Swing-Maxi Pumps; Comfort Breast Cushion & Insert; Reduce Medela 24 mm PersonalFit Breastshield Down to 19 mm

After months of searching for something smaller than 21mm, I finally found this!! The silicone is soft and cushiony. It is easy to clean and use. I love that you can use it with a flange that has a longer stem. Some milk does get caught between the insert and the flange, but not much. If I don’t make sure it is attached correctly, part of the outer lip will come off while pumping (and you can lose some suction) but it is easy enough to slip back on. The silicone does have more friction than the smooth plastic. It helps with more efficient pumping, but I normally put just a little bit of coconut oil where it narrows so there isn’t too much friction!I was about ready to give up on pumping because I couldn’t find a flange that fit. I had blisters, cuts, pain, etc. I know it is only a couple of millimeters, but those two millimeters have made me much more comfortable (partially because of the size and partially because of the material. It makes a HUGE difference!) I have been able to continue for 2 more months and am not done yet!!

I wish that I would have tried these sooner. I was hesitant to purchase these after reading a number of negative and 'meh' reviews, and I didn't like the idea of having to dry them off and reinsert them every time, but I haven't had to do that. These have NOT really improved the amount of milk I express, but pumping is definitely more comfortable. No more rubbed raw skin around my nipples, yay!Pros:- Comfortable (Much better than standard hard plastic shields/flanges, esp if you have stretchy skin/aerola)- Quick and easy to insert (One of the top reviews says this takes effort, but it really doesn't)- Can use multiple times without cleaning + reinserting (Again, that review says you have to do this, but you don't)Cons:- Slight loss of suction (you can hear some air getting pulled in)- Some milk does get pulled back between the insert and flange, but is fairly minimal- It is an additional part that needs to be cleanedMore Details:I have a Medela Freestyle pump and was a little surprised when I realized that they do not supply shields smaller than 21mm. I have fairly stretchy nipples/aerolas and both the standard Medela 24mm and 21mm flanges were rubbing my skin raw. The 21s were better than the 24s, but after using those for over a month 3x a day, my nipples were starting to get a little worse for wear. If you are considering buying the 21s and you have pretty stretchy nipples, I would recommend getting these instead. And if in doubt, measure your nipples after a pumping session; mine measure around 18mm.Before using the product, I didn't understand how the loss of suction was happening. But I've added a sketch so you can see how air and milk get pulled between the insert and flange. The insert (shown in red) hooks around the flange, but this is not a airtight seal, so air (and milk) will get between the two. In my experience this has not impacted how much milk I express. With a Freestyle pump, I do pump a level higher (up to 4 from 3). And most milk that gets between the two, I am able to push out into the bottle after I am done pumping.Another reason I waited on this was because other reviewers said the insert needs to be dry to function. But it does NOT need to be removed and dried every time. This is important to me, since I pump 2x at work and 1x at night and I do not have time to take these out and clean them every time. I leave these inserted all day and then remove and clean them once a day, at the end of the day with the rest of my pump parts.

The media could not be loaded.  I ordered these inserts to put in the Medela Harmony 24mm breast shield. The 24 mm shield was too big for me but the 19mm inserts fit perfectly for my approximately 1cm diameter nipples. The inserts are more comfortable than the 25mm plastic shield because they are made from soft flexible silicone. I wish there had been good instructions on how to insert the inserts correctly into the 24mm breast shield because I did it incorrectly at first. When inserted incorrectly the pump lost suction power and a lot of milk gathered between the inserts and the 24mm breast shield. Once I figured out what I was doing wrong I was able to pump as usual, without problems. To insert the inserts correctly you need to:1) Put the rim of the inserts over the rim of the 24mm breast shield.2) Press the lower opening of the inserts as far and as firmly as you can down the tube of the breast shield. The "circles" on the inserts should be flat, indicating that there is no air between the inserts and the 24mm breast shield.Pros: Works fantastic when inserted correctly.Cons: Takes some effort to insert correctly. The inserts loosen a bit while pumping (needing the inserts and breast shield to be cleaned, dried and put back in; otherwise the pump looses suction and milk gather between the inserts and the breast shield).

I was struggling with pumping until I found these inserts. Previously I was using the medela 24, then 21 (horrible design), then switched to pumpin pals which was better but still not great. These cushions charged everything for me. It took about a week but I started to respond better to the pump and was able to increase my supply. Sometimes a little milk collects between the cushion & the flange but it’s very minimal. If you are in need of small flanges and have been frustrated that everything caters to larger nips, try these!

Don’t waste your money on these... just buy the Maymom flanges instead. It’s a fantastic idea but they just don’t work. Does not stay put in 24mm flange, milk seeps in between this and the flange, suction power is significantly reduced, and they make a mess when you remove them from the milk in between.Why can’t Medela and the likes just make a dadgum 19mm flange?!?!? Absurd right! Well, the maymom 19mm flanges do work but these don’t so just go for the former.

Good product, working fine with the Philips avent double electric pump also.

they're ok. fit great with medela 24 mm freestyle flanges. my complaint is that the silicone tube that goes into the flange is way too short. if you have elastic nipples, you're better off buying punping pals instead. no milk collects in them and no leaks, so not sure how the other people were using them.

I got this for my Phillips avent pump as others said it works . However I didn’t find this to be the case . You end up losing a lot of suction in between the cover and the flange . It does how ever work with my Medela pump

I was sent this product in an open package and the inserts had clearly been used. Unfortunately they had to be discarded because it isn't sanitary.

These feel amazing on the breast BUT the insert into the 24” Falange is a rough transition and for myself caused issues on the nipples.
