Lineco Awl for Book Binding Projects

Used for the first time on bookbinding project and was really pleased with the ease of use and the security of the handle. This is a great addition to my craft tools.

I bought my awl in 2014 primarily for book binding but have found MANY other uses for it! I absolutely love this little awl and it sits on my work table in my craft room because it is small and super handy. Because they are so sharp, I stick the ends of my awls in the holes of an old round salt shaker (works)! I highly recommend it! :-)

I don't do a ton of work with leather, but qhen I do this tool works like magic, and you have the control of how large a hole you're trying to achieve without having to use too much effort.

The needle is strong and gets quite thick, but the tip is extra sharp. Using it for every-day piercing needs, and poking holes in Barbie doll head. Love the tool, its size, its toughness, even the wood is hard. The only drawback is that it rolls... put it down, and it rolls away all over the table, makes me scared if it falls down... onto a foot. I use multiple tools for each project, iterating tools constantly, so putting this one aside on the table even for a few seconds is a hazard. Needs its own stable box/place. Or some part of its handle should be chopped off to give a nice flat edge for it to lie on the table when not in use.

Very sharp and very fine point. I like the long, thin shaft so I can punch tight holes in leather for stitching. Because the shaft is very thin, it would be easy to bend and blunt the tip, but if used carefully the awl will hold up well.The large handle feels nice in my hand and it is comfortable to use.

This didn't arrive in time for my project, but I trialed it after the fact and I think it will be a good awl. Better than the old one I had for leather.

I'm glad that the other recipients are pleased with this product and I appreciate the time they spent writing their reviews, but what I received is as dull as a cheap (and used) construction nail. The awl is long but there is no bulbus handle and more importantly, there is no fine, sharp point as pictured in the accompanying illustration. I'm attempting to work through 5 sheets of 20lb paper --not 5 pages doubled which would be 10 pages. I not only have to push pretty hard but I have to push and twist, and push and twist and TWIST to even start making a dent. Because the Books by Hand Ball Handle Awlthat I received is so dull, it then jerks through the paper and makes a much larger hole than is desired. A thumb tack would do a better job. This "awl" is labeled as having been made in Pakistan and it arrived woven into a piece of heavy-duty, hardboardboard designed to protect the sharp tip of the awl --but there is no sharp tip. Perhaps I received a defective one but I need the tool now -- not in another week. I hate returning things but I'll sending this back for a refund. It's unusabel. I'm certain that I can find something faster and probably cheaper at a local hardware store. After this foray, I'll want to lay eyes on it first. Happy shopping.

I have had several of these awls over the years and use and abuse them until they're bent like fishhooks--but still punch holes! Great product that works over and beyond the point of wear that other awls will handle. Thanks so much for a consistently quality, comfortable, and affordable product!

A disappointin item — the ‘needle’ wasn’t centrally situayed in the handle and it was bent. A lot of money for something that looked cheaply made in Pakistan.

The point is sharp, it seems good and sturdy, it is comfortable to use, and has a nice appearance.
