Great book on financial institution M&A- there's a lot of nuances specific to these types of transactions and this resource does a great job of detailing them out. This book is a great fit for someone that has worked M&A in another industry and is now moving into banks, just has worked on a handful of bank deals or even for a junior banker joining a Financial Institution Group.Highlights of the book include:-challenges financial institutions face-impact the recession had on the industry-lots of stats on the industry-risk profiling-regulatory understanding-technical terms used in the industry-entity structures-acquisition strategies-performance metrics unique to banking-how interest impacts banking-M&A trends by bank type-regulations impact on the deal process-uniqueness in valuing banks-what to look for in diligence, types of risks-key metrics to look for-diligence steps in regards to compliance and regulations-integration considerationsThe format is based around a series of questions which makes it easy to follow and reference later. The world of banking is arcane to many people, conspicuously including the members of the boards of the institutions themselves. Dr. Lajoux and Mr. Roberts have made a real contribution here, with their orderly structure, clear explanations, thorough review of the myriad bank-specific issues involved, and most importantly the varied examples they provide. This book is an excellent desktop companion for any executive or director involved in thinking about banks and theur acquisitions, divestitures, or mergers. Thank you to both of them.

A comprehensive highly readable and useful book on bank M&A. Rarely does a business book have insights to offer to such a wide range of people. For those new to banking, it's an invaluable handbook. For those experienced in banking but not M&A it's a must-read. And, others like investors, academics, and directors looking to gain knowledge on banking or M&A will benefit as well.

Don't waste your time with this book. I'm halfway through it and the author still hasn't starting talking about Bank M&A. And skimming through the 2nd half it doesn't look he ever will.

it provides little technical details about how the M&A actually works. most of the contents are paraphrases of relevant legal standards. anyways, the author is a literature PhD who has never been in banking

The Art of Bank M&A appears to be the first of its kind in the series of books by Lajoux in that it is written to address M&A within a vertical industry vs a general M&A practice area. It is an outstanding study of the industry and goes beyond M&A by providing history and investing against the backdrop of ever increasing regulatory pressures.I appreciate the talent of Ms. Lajoux and her partner Dennis Roberts and their ability to address the nuances required to master mergers and acquisitions among financial institutions. They provide us an insider’s interpretation of the recent Dodd-Frank reform and Consumer Protection Act and how to grow institutions or shed under-performing assets within the confines of the regulatory environment.There will no doubt continue to be more consolidation in this industry.
