Q: How long does it take to make one?

Getting the right consistency to your sugar mix is important but once you've got your process down, you can put the recipe together in a matter of minutes. I always let the sugar set up in the mold (after packing the sugar down in the mold) for about a minute and then pop them out and let them dry over night.

Q: Does anyone know how many lbs of sugar do I need to make at least 20 sugar skulls with this mold?

The six cup sugar and 2 egg white recipe makes four complete skulls. I got 12 skulls out of 10 lb bag of sugar--skull size 4x3x4

Q: Can I use one side to make a flat back skull?

I would imagine so. The skull would lay entirely flat on a table face up. If you look at the picture you can see the seam between the two parts, so the rear part of the mold is separate and forms the rear hemisphere of the skull. That rear hemisphere helps prop up the skull.If you use both parts as directed (pro tip: buy a packaged carton of egg whites) you make the two skull parts separately and then stick them together with frosting.Hope this helps.

Q: Does this mold have the front and back part of the skull?

Yes. The mold has a front part and a back part that forms the back round of the skull. In shipping the back half of the mold nests in the front half.
