Longer Model Hook Remover
This is the longer model of the Hook Remover. The smaller one is easier to use and how often will the hook be in 9" from the lips. Small hooks may be difficult to use. The light could be mounted under or the hook at the end flipped. Where the light is cast a shadow at the usable end of the remover. Just saying it might be a bit easier if the light was pointed at the area where your trying to grip the buried hook. This is definitely well built and feels good in my hand. The last point I'd like to make is that it's a little big to fit into a tackle box. You may need to carry this outside of a tackle box/bag.There definitely been designed with thought... there's a small hole for a clip, string other device to help carry it.

Very useful and well built
So this is one piece of equipment I somehow have missed buying until now. I have hooked some fish deeper than I would like, and some of those have some ugly teeth. The forceps I had were not long enough. This is a solid hook remover. I looked at some in stores that felt cheap and that they would fall apart. This is solid. I used it on some of the bass and carp caught recently. This worked flawless.I have not used it at night, but with lights out I can see the light's hotspot is targeted at the tip. It is definitely bright enough to be useful at night. It would be nice to have some way to turn it on from the grip, but it was not hard at all to twist it on in the heat of the moment. The part I loved the most has to be the leash clip hole at the rear. This is very helpful for me to have on my kayak. Keeps it safe and less worry about losing it in the drink.

Good "hookout" but the light leaves much to be desired
The device itself is excellent at removing hooks. I purchased this one because of the light it comes equipped with to help see down the gullet of the fish. Problem is that the light has to be turned (twisted) in order to turn it on. This takes a couple of seconds (which is a lot of time when dealing with a fish that has just been dumped on the deck). One hand is needed to hold the device while the other turns on the light. This means that the fish has to be left flopping on the deck. I typically already have the leader in one hand, reach for the device and then remove the hook. The product would be so much better if there was a button to press with the thumb (making it a one handed operation) which turns the light on. It gets (as many as) 3 stars because the business end is the best "hook grabbing" configuration. The length is also very good. The (blue) color is a plus as it is obvious to distinguish the device from the tissues of the fish. The price is also "OK."

A godsend for those who are still using awkward pliers to remove hooks!
All I can say is this thing is great. At first I was worried the plastic part would not hold up to heavy duty fishing but let me tell you it's SOLID. Doubt it will ever break on me. Would have never thought a tool as simple as this would be this effective. I went ice fishing this weekend hoping to try this thing out. Caught a bass that basically swallowed the hook and I think we all know how much of a pain it can be to use pliers in that situation. Anyways I gave this MadBite hook remover a try (got the longer model, definitely better for larger fish) and was able to get a good enough grip to easily twist and remove the hook. Super simple! I caught a couple more fish that day and couldn't get over how easy it was. Thank you MadBite for making a great fishing tool!

Awesome compact hook remover. Much stronger than it looks.
Although the hook remover looks like a toy, it is very well built and functions smoothly. I do a bit of pier fishing with gotcha plugs and deal with the dangers of gotchas and flailing fish. I also kayak fish a lot, and I like the compact size of the hook remover. I would recommend adding a lanyard to the hook remover as it does not come with one in the package. I think the light may come in handy for some applications but I am not sure how it may hold up in a kayak where it may be submerged. I don't see myself using it much for either application but if you do any night fishing I can see how it would be useful.

I like it
Light is good idea, but almost lost light cap when I turned it too much and did not know. I do not like the fact you have to turn the ring around the light.

Perfect length
The Madbite Hook Out Fish Hook removers is a phenomenal product. They are light weight and easy to grasp whether you 10 or 100 years old. They do not require a lot of squeezing pressure to remove the hook. The shorter length work splendidly in my Kayak and are still long enough to reach all the way down the throat of my fish to easily remove the hook so I can release my catches, after all the KastKing motto is keeps fishing fun and the only way to do that is to catch and release the fish for our future. Another phenomenal product and life long customer!

I love it
I would definitely recommend this hook remover. It looks great, feels strong and sturdy and works smooth. I got the smaller of the two and it fits well into my tackle box at around 9" long. I basically fish for bass but I also catch walleye, pickerel, pike and sometimes good size Muskie. And for this reason I may buy the larger 13" model in the future. The further I can stay away from their teeth the better I feel. I don't intentionally fish at night very often but the light is a great idea and should be a definite help.

Dusk to Dawn: The best tool for the job!
Your dehooker really saved the day. I was fishing up in the Swedish archipelago. My wife hooked what she thought was a good fish but it turned out to be a deep hooked jack-pike; which had swallowed the hook. Thank goodness I was carrying this hook remover. Well there is nothing like having the right tool for the job! In the fading light, the hardest part of the job was to get the pike to open his mouth; but once he did I was able to remove the hook quickly thanks to the on-board flashlight. I really would not consider going fishing without this dehooker

EXCELLENT PIECE OF KIT.
THIS IS AN EXCELLENT PIECE OF KIT. SO EASY TO USE. I RECEIVED THIS ON SATURDAY AND USED IT THE VERY NEXT DAY. IT UNHOOKED BOTH SMALL AND NOT SO SMALL FISH WITH EASE. IT WAS ESPECIALLY GOOD AT UNHOOKING DEEPLY HOOKED FISH.I NORMALLY USE BARBLESS HOOKS HOWEVER FOR THE PURPOSE OF GIVING THE MADBITE HOOK REMOVER A REAL GOOD TRIAL I ALSO TRIED IT WITH BARBED HOOKS. IT WORKED JUST AS WELL AS WITH THE BARBLESS. THE ONLY GRIPE I HAD WITH IT WAS THE LIGHT. IT SHOULD PERHAPS BE KNURLED AS I FOUND IT A LITTLE DIFFICULT TO SWITCH ON WITH COLD, WET HANDS.
