Remote Control Compatible with Philips DVDR3575H

Owing to problems searching for it, I ordered this remote through eBay, though the price was the same. I needed a way to operate a DVDR3576H, and discovered that the earlier DVDR3575H used the same original remote, an accessory without which these recorders are nearly useless. While some of the "universal" variety include compatible codes, most of them can't handle the large number of required functions. With the 3-device GE/Jasco remote, #34456 (listed on Amazon at ASIN:B076QDZZF9) using code 2625 I could turn the power on and off, set the clock (very important to turn off the obsolete "auto clock set" feature) and got partial operation of the recorder, but there were no buttons for such things as selecting the recording "mode" (SP, LP, EP...) and it wasn't possible to directly choose HDD or DVD.This remote from GenuineCopies appears to be the functional equivalent of the original, though the layout, while fairly logical, is not the same. It is powered by two "AAA" cells (not supplied), and despite some minor faults, it is inexpensive and seems to work well. The main deficiency is that only a few of the buttons are marked with the actual functions; the translation sheet provided is quite long and could be easily lost. I've taped on some labels for the functions that aren't obvious.The key layout is mostly good, though small buttons are used for the "transport" operations -- forward, scan, stop and pause. The numeric keypad is of standard "telephone" layout. In addition to numeric input these keys are used for adding titles in the manner of "texting," though only the numbers are marked, so the letters must be remembered. As with the original remote "1" is used for punctuation and "special" symbols, "Q" and "Z" have been added to the "7" and "9" buttons, and the zero brings up a "space," not the Operator.The remote must be aimed fairly accurately at the recorder, though this can reduce accidental entries during recording. While not especially uncomfortable in shape, the smooth plastic feels a little "hot" when held for more than a couple minutes. And as might be expected, the feel of the button action reflects the low cost of the unit, but they all respond well.There is an alternative, a "Redi-Remote" from RemotesPro, found on Amazon under ASIN: B009D5QCW8. I don't have this particular model, but have "Redi-Remotes" for two other recorders. The comments in the reviews for that unit match my experience; the layout isn't as good as on the one from GenuineCopies, the sliding cover is awkward, and it is more expensive, though the button functions are marked. But overall I prefer the design of the GenuineCopies remote. While it required International shipping, it only took a couple weeks to arrive. It works well enough that I can ignore the minor issues and give it a 5-star "I Love It" rating.
