Making a Difference in Art

In Art, Kayla Miller delivers a thoughtful and humorous continuation of Olive's journey, following the beloved graphic novels *Click* and *Camp*. As Olive embarks on her sixth-grade year filled with new experiences and excitement for a field trip to the city, she quickly discovers that a school policy is preventing some students from participating. Driven by her sense of justice, Olive decides to take matters into her own hands.Determined to be heard, Olive runs for a position on the student council against her close friends Trent and Sawyer. The competitive nature of the election brings high emotions and challenges that test their friendship and Olive's commitment to her cause. Through Olive's adventures, Miller captures the complexities of standing up for what's right while also navigating the dynamics of friendship.*Art* is a relatable and engaging graphic novel that encourages readers to find their voice and highlights the importance of taking action for change, all while maintaining the humor and warmth that fans have come to love. With its rich illustrations and inspiring message, this book is sure to resonate with middle school readers and fans of the series alike.

Great for reluctant readers

I bought this for my sixth grade classroom and it was a hit! So many students have read it and have asked me to buy the others in the series.

Social awareness, speaking up & preserving.

Such a great graphic novel! My 7 & 9 year olds loved it! So did I. The reader learns about democracy, the importance of trying to make things better for others, mending friendships, and persisting. It's a great read. Highly recommend. And, there's a bonus mint chocolate chip recipe in the back:)I can't wait to read Camp & Click, by the same author.

My fave of series

"Glitter is paper's most powerful ally" (page 35).I think this has been my favorite of the series so far. The funny illustration humor I enjoyed so much in book one is back. It is subtle and I like to think for adults -- I definitely chuckled a couple times. I also liked the depth of the book. Money is an issue for lots and lots of kids in school and it shows up is various ways that sometimes aren't immediately apparent to the adults surrounding kids. Even Olive's posters and flyers are a nod to the haves/have nots. Miller did a good job blending the serious with the silly. I will say, Willow took a turn in book two and she's still a little annoying, but I guess that makes sense given her age. This book has a lot of diversity throughout, which gives young readers an opportunity to see themselves reflected in the pages. Love that.Love how accessible graphic novels are. Where readers might struggle the illustrations help and some pages are only illustrations, which can help make reading feel less overwhelming.Happy to have this series in my classroom.

Good Book

My daughter liked this book and she said it was interesting. She read it in one day. SPOILER ALERT: She liked that at the end Olive didn't win the election, but her friends who did win, gave her their spot, because all they wanted was pudding.
