Barbie Year 1995 Hallmark Special Edition 12 Inch Doll - Holiday Memories Barbie with Red Satin Dress, Flocked Coat with "Faux Fur" Collar and Sleeves, Hat, Earrings, Handring and Boots

This is one of the prettiest Barbie's I have ordered for my granddaughters. All of the Hallmark items have been excellently done. The box is like taking a trip back in time.One of the reasons I give my granddaughters dolls is because I want to give them something that will interest them in a particular period in history and then I find other gifts that will enhance that, like a book to read together, or a film about that period. This doll is from the 1910 decade. I have a fashions book that I purchased from Amazon that shows the progession of fashion from ancient times down through the present. We love to look up the fashions of any period and see how they evolved.1901 saw the end of the Victorian period with the demise of England's beloved Queen Victoria, and the rise of the Edwardian period. Edward was a very social fellow and loved the continental fashions and cultural habits. Ladies fashions revealed a new interest in the variety of fabrics becoming available. The fashion on this doll depicts that interest with its embossed feature.This was a time for an upwardly mobile middle class due to the industrial revolution, and the middle class mimiced the upper class interests in garden parties, afternoon teas, fancy picnics, sailing regattas, and horse races not to mention the marching bands (John Phillip Sousa toured America and the world). The large brimmed, much bedecked hat was the rage. Muffs and fluffs of every kind were used as adornments, and here we see the furred neckline and sleeves of this cold weather fashion. The insert of the narrowed (as oppposed to Victorian full skirts) is vibrantly done in bright red and the high sheen of satin. The overcoat is trimmed to a demure fitted waist flowing wider at the hips (corsets were still in and the hour-glass figure prevailed). Parasols and umbrellas accessories and pearls (in varying lengths from chokers to strands) were popular jewelry.I chose Clifton Webb's performances in CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN and STARS AND STRIPES FOREVER (both made in the 50's) to show the children what life was like at this time in the states. Audrey Hepburn in MY FAIR LADY will depict England at about this time, but the younger set may have a little trouble understanding some of the dialect. Still the music and the costuming are tremendously enjoyable.

I collect Barbie and have had this one saved for a while. I love the look and the Christmas theme. The doll looked like new, and the box is actually signed by the designer I came to find. The doll came quicker than expected and was very nicely packaged. I appreciated the eco-friendly packing peanuts.

In fact, I believed I'd ordered the Holiday Voyage doll, as it was in the browsing side. This was Holiday Memories doll, and not quite what I was looking for. Pretty doll anyway.

The box is not in mint condition, it’s scratched, a little faded, bent a little, but it doesn’t need to be all those things. Considering the age of the doll and packaging & the fact that I bought it not as a collector, but rather just as a doll that I’ve always liked, I’m very happy with it. It would be giftable to someone like me who isn’t buying it as an investment, but rather just as a doll lover. I feel it’s an excellent value for the money. I would recommend and buy again from this vendor.
