A good all-rounder that is easy to use under Linux
The key point about this device is that it just works with everything on your network, that includes any Linux systems. Its actually easier to use with Linux than Windows. The CUPS and XSANE utilities I use on my Linux system know all about this printer without needing any special drivers! The Windows software includes a very useful photo printing utility that makes great prints but is not so great with the printer paper set up.There are issues with the set up process. The setup guide implies that the quick and easy route is to use the Epson app on your phone. This did not work with my phone, it just did not detect the printer. I followed the simple manual set-up instructions given in the printed setup guide. Once I had the ink loaded and the print system primed, the app on my phone connected with the printer and became useful. Filling the ink tanks is a clean and easy process. It is significantly simpler than working with the ink cartridges that I have used in the past. The filling system is designed to prevent you from overfilling the tanks. Another clever feature of this device. The screen on the front of the device is useful but rather small. I found it difficult to use but not impossible. It takes a little getting used to. Once you have discovered how it works it is easy to use but there is a learning period. Once you have understood how the menus work, it is actually very simple and quick to use. However, once the printer is setup the Epson Smart Panel app is easier to use.Printing and scanning performance is great. This printer is capable of creating borderless prints and this is why it will suspend the print operations if the paper implied by the pending print operation does not match the the paper size and type that the printer has been told is loaded in the paper feed. One of the things that you need to learn is to check that the printer paper settings match the paper in the feeder before starting any print job.The scanner built into the top of the device is of good quality and easy to use. BUT the Epson app restricts you to 600dpi whereas the scanner is capable of 1200dpi. No problem for XSANE but does restrict the quality of the images produced using the Epson app. The app appears to be tuned for creating PDFs rather than imaging photographs or other detailed originals. There's a lot to this device and it does have a learning curve. It prints well on a range of papers and sizes. It is a very capable scanner and copier, with the option of copying in colour or black and white. It is capable of two sided printing which can save a lot of paper. It has two print qualities, normal and high quality. It has a quiet mode to keep noise down but reduces printing speeds. Photo printing is very good for a non-specialist device and will be more than adequate for most people.

Very Good, Very Nice
This is an amazing printer. Goes without saying, it has same or better quality of my last printer (InkJet). I have more than 3 times printed before having to but more ink. I think it is a great printer and you will not be disappoint. you can do manual double side prints with easy to follow steps. It holds good scanning while not being too big or or heavy. I am not really about how long it takes to print but it is faster than my previous

Epson Eco tank printer
I’m not giving this printer 5* yet, I’ve only had it a couple of days. So far, it took about 30 minutes to set up. As always, anything with a wireless setting needs an update right away. A small problem recognising the printer ip address but ran it again and updated fine. I’ve printed a4 and A5 and back to back. Back to back is not straight forward yet. But I can print one side then the other without issues. I’ve attached pictures of print quality. Plain paper, printed with standard and high quality and photo paper, using standard and high quality. For standard paper the colour is better on high quality but I struggle to find a difference with photo paper. I went for this printer because of the eco tank inks. I’ll be able to update after Christmas when all my printing projects are done.

Does not support AirPrint on iPhone.
I liked the idea of cheaper inks using a tank refill system and replacing my old Canon printer which now doesn’t work quite so well.I had been used to the instant set up with the Cannon using AirPrint on my iPhone and assumed that all the new printers nowadays would have the same system. How wrong I was! This printer has minimal buttons on the front and basically uses your phone to control it. There is a QR code in the instructions to walk you through the set up. You have to fill the ink up first before setting the network connection/ WiFi. When I had finally set the connection up and tried to print from my phone - I got the ‘ printer is not found ‘ notice. The only way I could get it to print some things -ie photos -was to download the Epson Smart App and go though this to find a photo to print. When trying to print a document-ie bank statement there was no way of getting it to print. The Epson app just froze on me and wouldn’t open.I did try the Epson help desk ( closed all weekend) and Monday morning was sent the cut and paste manual instructions I already had!I checked printer on the AirPrint site and going through the thousands of compatible printers (even Epson printers !) the 2860 series was not listed.Additionally I found there was no way of choosing to print just one page of a document- it had to be the whole thing. Also I had been used to double sided printing with my old cheaper Canon. Whilst on the description it mentioned this as an option - I could find no way to do this - not even to print alternate sides and turn put back in manually. There was mention of making multi page posters- but maybe not on this modal as there was no option to do this using the Epson ‘Smart app that I found.Overall the printing ( when I did manage to print a photo!) was very loud but quite quick. The colours on the photo ( using photo paper) was disappointing and not like the photos you send away for.The scanner worked quite well - but the buttons on the front of the printer are not very clear distinguishing between black and white or colour- and there is no way of putting a number into the machine for several copies - you just have to keep pressing the button but the printer doesn’t display the number.Overall really disappointed and had to return. It turned out to be quite a basic printer despite the £179 cost and I think I can get much better for way cheaper with more connectivity!
